You Said, We Did
How your voice has made a difference
This page provides an opportunity to see the valuable feedback received from students across a wide range of communication channels, and to see what the OU has done in response.
Please note this video is now a couple of years old so some people no longer have the same title. The current Students Association leadership can be seen on their website.
Choose a topic from the drop-down list below to see how students can have an impact on their university experience and be empowered to help shape the University. Next time you are asked to give your opinion, you know that the OU is taking this feedback seriously and will respond.

During the pandemic I feel it has become harder and sometimes incredibly challenging to cope with the pace of study required in my module(s).
We did...
We have consistently revised our regulations to grant more flexibility in the submission of TMAs and we offered the possibility to postpone assessment without losing marks and incurring in further costs. We are constantly monitoring the situation and adapting progressively our rules to balance the need to guarantee quality of education and our commitment to support you.

I found the workload in some of the modules particularly heavy and different across modules.
We did...
While there is a progression in the demands of modules at different levels (i.e., modules at Level 3 are more demanding than modules at Level 1 because you will have developed more skills), we are conducting a revision of our core modules in order to enhance student experience.

I would like more case studies or real companies and would like some of the older case studies to be updated and consideration given to the UK leaving the EU.
We did...
Our modules are continuously updated to include discussions on new materials. For instance, the debate on Brexit is considered in B302 – Strategic management. We also have the ambition of teaching theories and frameworks that apply to ever changing world conditions and our tutors are engaged in supporting you in making sense of their application.

Having extensions available is a big help.
We did...
This is right and the ability to seek an extension should be taken whenever this will help with your studies. In this difficult time, we have given more flexibility to tutors to agree on extensions and this has enabled students to succeed.

You want to be able to apply to extend the time limits for a qualifying law degree during your studies, instead of having to wait until the completion of their last module.
We did...
We changed the regulations governing the LLB to enable students to apply to extend the time limits at any point during their studies, so they no longer need to wait until the complete the degree.

Students starting their studies at level one feel isolated due to the distance learning nature of OU studies
We did...
We introduced a pilot peer mentoring project for students starting their first law module in February 2020, Students who asked to be part of the project were placed in small groups with a peer student mentor who had completed the module in the last 2 years. The groups could meet online or communicate through a forum.
