Accessibility statement

This page provides an opportunity to see the valuable feedback received from students across a wide range of communication channels, and to see what the OU has done in response.

Please note this video is now a couple of years old so some people no longer have the same title. The current Students Association leadership can be seen on their website.

Choose a topic from the drop-down list below to see how students can have an impact on their university experience and be empowered to help shape the University. Next time you are asked to give your opinion, you know that the OU is taking this feedback seriously and will respond.

TMA deadlines for multiple modules often fall very close together which put extra pressure on preparation time and made it more likely for errors in submission to occur.

We did...

We are looking for new ways to resolve this, but in the short term we have produced a document on the qualifications website with all deadlines for current modules named on psychology qualification pathways to assist you with your planning.

Contact from Student Support in relation to studying multiple modules tended to be too negative about taking on the challenge.

We did...

We briefed the Student Support team on our new support materials and prepared guidance based on your feedback on this issue.

August to October felt like wasted time for students new to studying and not knowing what to expect.

We did...

We produced subject specific induction materials: ‘Getting to know…. Psychology’ which sit alongside the OU induction materials to help students prepare for study.

Investigating psychology (DE300) had specialist markers for different assignments, reflecting their areas of expertise but, you told us that you preferred having one tutor throughout the module allowing you to build a relationship and ensuring a consistent approach to the feedback you receive.

We did...

We have rearranged the assessment strategy so that each student’s allocated tutor marks and feeds back on their TMAs.

Investigating psychology (DE300) offered day schools but no other face-to-face tutorials and you told us that you missed face-to-face tutorials.

We did...

We have added face-to-face tutorials in venues across the UK and Republic of Ireland. Each tutorial also has an alternative one hour online tutorial for students who cannot attend the face to face event.

The purpose of the forums on Investigating psychology (DE300) was not clearly defined.

We did...

We have rearranged the forums so that issues relating to the experimental projects that students conduct are dealt with in one forum, and issues concerning survey projects are dealt with in another.

The workload on Investigating psychology (DE300) was too high compared to other modules.

We did...

Investigating psychology (DE300) is the final module on our British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited modules and as such it is supposed to be challenging. However, we agree that although the DE300 workload meets OU guidelines, it contains a very broad curriculum span with all of the BPS core domains of psychology taught and assessed. We are exploring possible changes to the coverage in DE300 to help balance the content in combination with other Stage 3 options.

That the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) materials for learning about statistics in research methods were distributed across several weeks making it difficult to find and access specific items.

We did...

We have converted the six weeks of quantitative methods materials into pdf files so that the methods teaching can be viewed as a whole and/or printed out more easily.
