You Said, We Did
How your voice has made a difference
This page provides an opportunity to see the valuable feedback received from students across a wide range of communication channels, and to see what the OU has done in response.
Please note this video is now a couple of years old so some people no longer have the same title. The current Students Association leadership can be seen on their website.
Choose a topic from the drop-down list below to see how students can have an impact on their university experience and be empowered to help shape the University. Next time you are asked to give your opinion, you know that the OU is taking this feedback seriously and will respond.

Key skills highlighted for a proposed new Geology degree include GIS, team working and report writing.
We did...
We are currently developing GIS material for the Master of Environmental Science and plan to introduce some basic GIS teaching at Stage 2 Earth and Environmental Science. We also plan to improve our support of report writing tasks in several modules.

A new Geology degree should teach a range of practical skills and offer students diverse practical experiences, for instance considering how placements might be included.
We did...
To supplement existing field schools, we are scoping plans for new virtual field experiences via the OpenSTEM Labs and are designing a model to allow students’ external practical experience (such as work placements or courses from other providers) to gain credit on S831. Plan

Field learning is critical to an Earth Science degree and every effort should be made to enable students to access and benefit from it.
We did...
We have improved the information on field schools so attendees know more what to expect. EEES staff are investigating how to design more inclusive field teaching, via OU projects and in collaboration with international geoscience educators.

iCMAs should be available for revision purposes
Assessment practice in Computing
We did...
We agree this could be useful. We will advise module teams to create revision copies of iCMAs for revision purposes, where possible.

Support for progression is insufficient from Level 1 to Level 2 and L3, with regards to coding skills. More taster materials and AYRF quizzes would help.
Assessment practice in Computing
We did...
We agree that the gap between coding skills required in TU100 / TM129 and later modules was too large. We have tried to address this through a rewrite of our Level 1 modules, with TM111 and TM112 replacing TU100. We have increased the number of diagnostic quizzes and support materials (taster, e.g.) available to students, via the study website.

Formative iCMAs should use immediate feedback. They should be repeatable.
We did...
We agree that formative iCMAs should use immediate feedback, and be repeatable. We will advise module teams to adopt immediate feedback in formative assessment and allow multiple attempts on formative iCMAs in preference to deferred feedback and single attempts.

Education, Childhood, Youth and Sport - Full time study. We would like the University to be more positive about the fact that students are choosing to study full time.
We did...
We are really supportive of you studying full time and are sorry if our concern that you know how much study will be involved has come across as being negative. We have already fed this back to relevant areas and a member of the school sits on the University group looking at how we support students who study full time with us. We will be representing your views.

Education, Childhood, Youth and Sport - Full time study We would like to see examples of the assignments that we are being asked to submit.
We did...
We will work with colleagues across the school and try to get this in place for 2020.

Education, Childhood, Youth and Sport - Full time study. A lack of consistency in some areas of modules, such as the use of titles or a 5% word 'buffer' is really confusing and an unnecessary confusion.
We did...
We agree and we will be reviewing all the modules for 2020.
