The Future of Learning and Assessment - Student Consultation Online Forum
In October, we are running a Student Consultation Online Forums that you can get involved with:
• The Future of Learning and Assessment - 3 October to 20 October
The Open University has always aimed to make higher education accessible to anyone who wanted to study, and to use the latest technology to provide the best educational experience for our students. With recent technological advances, including artificial intelligence, virtual reality and augmented reality, the OU is looking at how we might facilitate and assess high-quality supported distance learning in the future to improve the student experience and student success. In focussing on learning, we recognise it may be facilitated in many ways such as by tutors, module team members, peers, technology, learning materials and more. In focussing also on assessment, we are exploring innovative ways in which students can be assessed to demonstrate they have met the learning outcomes. In exploring the Future of Learning and Assessment, we need to help more students achieve their study goals and ensure our approach is inclusive, while making sure that our operations are financially sustainable and deliver the best use of money for students In this consultation we are asking you to think about a future vision for learning and assessment. We are asking, if you were to start from nothing, what you might expect from a learning experience of the future (bearing in mind, making best use of resources). We’ll start with the first two questions, then add a bit more questions to support your thinking on this topic as the days go on but please start by being as creative as you would like to! .
The Future of Learning and Assessment Project Team look forward to hearing your ideas!

Student Charter
So, what is the Student Charter? You can familiarise yourself with the Student Charter.
The Student Charter is a commitment to values that all staff and students within the OU community are expected to embody. All students who sign up to study at the OU are asked to read the Student Charter and confirm they will abide by these values.
The Student Charter sets out how all in the OU community must treat each other with respect, appreciate diversity, work towards sustainability, communicate clearly, actively support student engagement, challenge bullying, and are responsible for learning.
The Student Charter also outlines the OU’s commitment to the Welsh language.
The OU and the OU Students Association, who work in partnership on the Student Charter as well as on other projects, are passionate about Equality, Inclusion and Diversity and this is relayed in the Student Charter and within the OU community.
Every year, we review and refresh the Student Charter to ensure it is up-to-date for all of the OU Community. The 2024 review is now complete and the Student Charter has been revised by updating Value 1.
Value 1. We treat each other with courtesy, tolerance and respect, respecting the rights of individuals to hold different beliefs and views and to express them appropriately in line with our commitments to freedom of speech and academic freedom.
Value 1 has been updated to reflect the OU's commitment to freedom of speech and academic freedom.
Look out for the Student Charter Review 2025, where will be asking you what values the OU Community should uphold.
