Outcome of the Undergraduate Business Periodic Quality Review

The Undergraduate (UG) Business programme of the Faculty of Business and Law has recently had its Periodic Quality Review (PQR) and we’d like to share the positive outcomes of this with you.

The PQR is one of the university’s monitoring and review activities that provides each area with the opportunity to holistically review the quality and standards of the last six years, ensuring both quality assurance and enhancement of the student journey.

During the PQR, the panel reviewed a host of evidence and heard feedback from students, associate lecturers, external advisers and other colleagues to reach a positive judgement on the academic quality and standards of the Undergraduate Business provision.

We would like to thank again the group of students who met with the review panel to express their views and share their experiences of studying UG Business modules and qualifications.

The panel made 7 recommendations, some of which are summarised here:

The panel recommended:

  • a review of student support materials available to students between levels – level 1 to level 2 but particularly level 2 to level 3.
  • consideration be given to student induction onto modules.
  • to support students to take modules outside their specialism area, particularly at level 3 and to make subject specialist preparatory materials available to students to help them make the step up.
  • A review of employer engagement in Q91, specifically the way that employers inform and contribute to curriculum, materials development, and extracurricular opportunities at a programme (not a strategic/faculty) level.

The Undergraduate Business team are now in the process of preparing an action plan to respond to these recommendations.
